Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - 26 August, 2025: The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is honoured to announce a pivotal step towards fostering an even more inclusive and accessible cultural and educational landscape. Abu Dhabi Children’s Library at Cultural Foundation has introduced the Orbit Reader-40 device, making it the first library in the region to offer this groundbreaking technology. The Orbit Reader-40 is a compact, refreshable Braille display with 40 Braille cells. The innovative device empowers users to read digital books, take notes, and navigate content independently using Braille. Its seamless connectivity via USB or Bluetooth to computers and mobile devices, along with its standalone reader and note-taker functionality, opens up a new world of literary engagement for young readers with visual impairments. This initiative by Abu Dhabi Children’s Library at Cultural Foundation reinforces its position as forward-thinking, inclusive institution within the region, demonstrating its commitment to ensuring all children, including those who are blind or visually impaired, have equitable and enriching access to the joy of reading and knowledge through cutting-edge assistive technology that redefines the traditional library experience. Abu Dhabi Children’s Library at Cultural Foundation serves as a knowledge and sustainable learning space for children up to 14 years old, committed to fostering a lifelong love of learning. It provides an inclusive, engaging, and interactive space where children and families can explore literacy, creativity, and innovation. Anchored in the UAE’s rich heritage and inspired by the possibilities of the future, the library empowers young minds through immersive experiences, diverse literary collections, including a rich selection of fiction, non-fiction, novels, autobiographies, and reference materials in multiple languages, and dynamic educational programmes. By blending culture and technology, and through its daily and special monthly programmes, the library creates a nurturing environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a strong sense of community. Children can engage in a variety of activities focused on early childhood development, reading, writing, arts, crafts, and exploration in the library’s interactive learning and play spaces. The Orbit Reader-40 will be available for use by children visiting the library at Cultural Foundation, providing a transformative tool that supports independent reading and learning for visually impaired young readers. This further exemplifies how such initiatives, by increasing access to reading and books, contribute to more culturally engaged and educated lives and societies. By empowering the youth with access to knowledge and books, DCT Abu Dhabi takes an important step towards protecting, preserving, and promoting the emirate's culture and heritage, driving future growth while nurturing respect and appreciation for the city’s rich past.
