Lightweight title on the line this weekend as champion Charles Oliveira takes on Dustin Poirier in Las Vegas Abu Dhabi, December 09, 2021: UFC lightweight title contender Dustin Poirier says he would be keen to return to Abu Dhabi to fight as he prepares to take on champion Charles Oliveira this weekend at UFC®269: OLIVEIRA vs. POIRIER. Reigning champion Oliveira will take on No.1 ranked Poirier on Sunday, with the Louisiana native speaking of the experience he gained in the UAE in high-profile fights against Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. At the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, it will be the second time Poirier fights for the 155lbs title, after challenging Khabib in 2019. Whilst unsuccessful on that night, The Diamond is yet to lose since that fight in Abu Dhabi - including a defining win over McGregor in the UAE capital. Champion Oliveira rides a nine-fight win-streak including a stunning performance last time out against Michael Chandler to claim the title vacated by Khabib - which was preceded by an equally impressive win over Tony Ferguson. “Travelling across the world has given me more experience in my fighting career, and the ability to be able to walk into these places and put on a performance,” said Poirier. “I would definitely come back to the UAE, I had a great time there, the people were nice - but knocking Conor McGregor out was the highlight!” Since the defeat to Khabib, Poirier is on a three-fight win streak, including a Fight of the Night against Dan Hooker, and two victories against Ireland’s former two-weight world champion. UFC® 269 features two championship bouts, with the double-champion Amanda Nunes defending her bantamweight title against Julianna Peña in the co-main event.
