Abu Dhabi, UAE – 2 June 2025 – With a startling statistic revealing that 35.9% of adults in Abu Dhabi and a staggering 71% of the Emirati population face obesity, the urgency to act has never been clearer. Alarmingly, only 30% of adults in Abu Dhabi engage in regular exercise with many opting for convenience over health.
In response to growing global health concerns, Global Wellness Day is held annually on the second Saturday of June. Its aim is to promote well-being by encouraging healthier lifestyle choices and raising awareness about wellness worldwide.
Aligned with this mission, The Galleria Al Maryah Island has proudly launched the Get Active programme. This initiative offers free fitness activities centred on health and wellness, such as dance, yoga, running and walking. These activities are designed to create a fun, social and welcoming environment for individuals of all ages and abilities.
Nazneen Jaleel, a regular Get Active participant, shares her transformative experience:
‘This programme has completely changed my life! I feel more alive, more in control of my health and honestly, it’s been my reset button—mentally, physically, emotionally. Incorporating this programme into my lifestyle helped me decrease my weight from 78 kgs to 67 kgs.’
An Exploration of Movement, Connection and Fun
This year, in honour of Global Wellness Day on 14 June, The Galleria's Get Active programme is collaborating with The Entertainer, Durance, lululemon, and New Balance. Together, they are creating a series of inclusive wellness-oriented activities. These activities are designed to inspire and empower everyone.

- Zumba session: 12 June | 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM
- Wellness walk: 13 June | 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM
- Community run: 14 June | 7:30 AM – 8:30 AM
All activities are complimentary; registration is required as spaces are limited.
